The Work For Breakfast

Who is behind TheWorkForBreakfast?

Hello! I am Christine Jandke. When I first read Loving What Is by Byron Katie in 2003 and did a worksheet on my boyfriend, it blew my mind. With the thought: frustration and separation. Without the thought: love and understanding. I have been doing The Work ever since, been to 3 Schools as a participant and as a staff member, translated part of the material for the German School, and been to numerous events to deepen my understanding and use of The Work.

How did TheWorkForBreakfast come about?

The Work has impacted my life in the most wonderful ways. Over the years it felt like riding in an hot air balloon. If you want to go higher you have to get rid of ballast. And that is exactly what The Work has helped me with: Questioning old and limiting beliefs and making peace with reality as it is. Situations that used to drive me crazy or were very stressful to me, no longer elicit the same stressful reaction and sometimes I don’t even notice until I see someone else’s stressful reaction to a situation.

I followed Katie’s advice and did The Work for breakfast. And lunch. And dinner. And occasionally I had a late night snack.

And sometimes my stories were so painful that I couldn’t do The Work. Sometimes I didn’t even know where to start.  And then I would listen to Katie doing The Work with other people and I noticed how it helped me even though I wasn’t doing The Work myself. And that’s how I got the idea of The Work For Breakfast.

What is TheWorkForBreakfast for?

I am so grateful to have found The Work and I have been trying to find a way to give back by passing on The Work. TheWorkForBreakfast is a place where you can find written inquiry to all different kinds of topics. It is for those times when you don’t even know where to begin doing The Work. It is when you can’t do The Work yourself just yet. It may serve as inspiration for beliefs to look into. Or it may be a way to slowly get your feet wet when you haven’t done The Work much yet.

Do I need to know The Work of Byron Katie?

When you read these inquiries on this website I believe that you will get a good idea of how it works. I still would recommend, however, that you visit Byron Katie’s website at www.thework.org and find out more about the process of inquiry if you don’t know The Work of Byron Katie yet at all.

How do I best use TheWorkForBreakfast.com?

You can go to the categories bar and find the topic that you would like to look at. Or you can use the search function on the top right and enter “depression” for example to find any inquiries that have the word “depression” in them. And of course you can just browse and see what you come across. There are no mistakes as Katie says…

Let me know…

I sincerely hope that TheWorkForBreakfast will be valuable to you. I would love to hear if it is. And I would also love to hear if there are topics that you would like to read Works about or about whatever else you might find a useful addition to this site. Drop me a line. You can leave a comment or write to me at CJ.jpg

What’s to come…

So far, I have posted pieces of Works in the format of written inquiry when it’s done by oneself. Self Inquiry is a powerful process, and the best part is that you don’t need anybody to do it with. That’s a great advantage. But The Work  can also be done with a facilitator. With self-inquiry it sometimes happens that you get stuck, or that your mind tries to get you away from it by coming up with all the things you should be doing RIGHT NOW instead of The Work, so that you will stay in your story. When you do The Work with a facilitator, they will hold you in the process. And they will also be able to see what you cannot because you are stuck in your story.

To show you what a facilitated process looks like, I will be posting audios and their transcripts from Work done with a facilitator (me). My clients have agreed to share their Works for the same benefit as the self-facilitated Works I have posted throughout the past 3 years. May they benefit you just as the examples of written Self-Inquiry.

Please keep writing to me and commenting on the blog to let me know how this has helped you or how it could be even more supportive.

With love,
Christine
